Bucha and Irpen are satellite towns of Kyiv. The distance between them and Kyiv is a little more than 25 km. Fighting on their territories began almost immediately after the invasion. Both cities were occupied and captured by Russian soldiers, as a result of which civilians suffered.
Irpen was liberated from the Russian invaders on March 28, and Bucha a little later – on April 1. After the liberation, the Ukrainian army began to explore the cities and recorded the shocking inhumane war crimes committed by the Russian army. Cities are literally strewn with the bodies of dead local residents. Many who tried to escape were killed while trying to leave, and civilians who could not leave were tortured and executed by Russian soldiers. The corpses of people were found with their hands tied and shot in the head.
